Transform your holiday gift-giving into an extraordinary experience when you learn how to stitch this festive Holiday Magic drawstring gift bag! Follow this machine embroidery tutorial that uses one of our Start Here Table Runner Embroidery Blanks to create a stunning, personalized gift bag adorned with a favorite design or two! This quick and easy project will hold your special presents, then be cherished as a keepsake long after the festivities are over!

Step 1

Fuse a 24” x 12” piece of OESD Fusible Woven to the center back of the table runner.

Step 2

Press the table runner in half, right sides together, to find the center of the 36” length.

Step 3

From the center fold, mark 2 vertical lines 7” on each side. Mark the horizontal center of each vertical line. These crosshairs are the center points of the embroidery designs.

Step 4

Using the OESD Grippy Grid, hoop one layer of Ultra Clean and Tear Plus paper (shiny) side up.

Step 5

Use the OESD Perfect Scoring Tool to score the paper. Remove the paper to reveal the adhesive surface.

Step 6

Place the table runner on the hoop with one of the cross hairs centered. Gently finger press the table runner to secure it to the adhesive surface.

Step 7

Load the selected design into the machine – we used 82009-44. Use the machine placement features to center the design on the crosshairs. Make sure the top of the design is towards the shorter end. Place OESD StitcH2O WashAway topper over the design area. Stitch the design per the thread chart.

Step 8

When the design is complete, remove the project from the hoop. Carefully tear away the stabilizer from the stitching. Press right side down on an OESD Perfect Embroidery Press Cloth

Step 9

Measure and mark a line 14” from each side of the center fold. These lines are where the bottom of the ribbon casing will be lined up.

Step 10

On a 14” piece of ribbon, fold the short ends in by 1/2” twice to form a double fold hem. Repeat for the other piece of ribbon.

Step 11

Align the bottom of the ribbon with the 14” line, centering the ribbon.

Step 12

Sew the ribbon onto the table runner, starting with the bottom edge. Here it is sewn with a narrow zigzag over the wire edging. Repeat for the other ribbon and side.

Step 13

Measure 2” up from the center fold. Fold the fabric, wrong sides together, on this line. Press. Repeat for the other side.

Step 14

Sandwich the center fold between the two new folds. Clip in place.

Step 15

Clip the sides of the table runner together, wrong sides together. Sew the sides with a 1/8” seam allowance, backstitching at the beginning and end.

Step 16

Use OESD Alligator Clamps to pull one of the 40” cord through the ribbon casings. The cord will go through the front and back casings until the ends are next to each other. Tie the cord ends together with an overhand knot. Repeat so the second cord enters and ends on the opposite side.

Step 17
